Extinction 2: The Explosive Conclusion
Phew! I have just finished the final proofread of Extinction 2: The Explosive Conclusion. Now it will be sent to the printers and it will be in your local bookstores or on-line book store in August.
I am really proud of Extinction 1, but I feel that Extinction 2 is even stronger and more action-packed. You certainly won’t be disappointed. Travel to five continents awaits you as the the Chosen Ones try to complete their mission. Trouble in the form of humans, animals, climatic factors, and of course Rufus Keller will keep you on the edge of your seat, or bed or wherever you like to do your reading. And of course there will be a lot of time travel. The ending is truly explosive. You’ll need sunglasses just to read it! I wonder who will be the first to leave me a comment on my website after reading it?

Yes, there are two covers of Give Me Four Reasons. The cartoon one was the first one, which I thought was a bit juvenile for the content of my story, but I was too scared to tell my publishers. But then they had a meeting and showed it to marketing people who thought it was too young-looking too. So I should have trusted my instincts and told my publishers my thoughts. Anyway, that version of the book will not be sold, as it was never made, but the cover was out there as a preview to booksellers. The new cover is heaps better. Glad you like it.

August is not too long to wait. I really wish it would be as popular as Harry Potter. I guess it takes a lot of marketing and word of mouth. So send the book trailer link to everyone you know and get them to send it on to everyone they know and this is how something gets big. Fingers crossed for a movie deal. Well, I wasn’t at school today but I got it for my birthday today, even though my birthday is in about a week, so I don’t need to borrow it from anyone anymore. YAY!!! XD

OMG Am i really talking to Lizzie Wilcock!! I read Extinction and i couldn’t believe it, it was so good. I was supposed to wright a book report on your book then write an additional chapter by myself. I nearly yelled out that it was nearly impossible for me to have the skill of your writing and how pathetic and stupid my writing would be compared to yours. Yes, you are really talking to Lizzie Wilcock! And I’m just a normal person who had all the same insecurities about my skills as a writer as you have. In fact, I was so sure that my writing was no good that it took me a whole year after I’d finished my first novel, “Losing It”, before I plucked up the courage to send it to a publisher! And that book went on to sell many copies and be shortlisted for the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards. So don’t think your writing is no good. But thanks for your glowing review of mine! Can I quote you for the back cover of my next book? Hey, did you end up writing that additional chapter? I’d love to see it. I won’t post it on the website, unless you want me to. Extinction2: the Explosive Conclusion, should be out in bookstores in August. The exact date depends on what day of the month they get their new orders in. But three days ago I received my “Advance Copy” in the post from my publishers, Scholastic. It looks fabulous. So it definitely is finished at the printers and ready to be released. Perhaps you could pre-order it from your book store or online bookstore so you can ensure you get one. Glad you loved the first one.

Fingers crossed it becomes a movie, but there is no word on that yet, and I think it will take a couple of years to get made anyway. So I guess we all have to wait for that one. I have no control over it. It’s in the hands of my publishers and whatever movie production companies they approach.

i brought the first extintion with my birthday as i am a fan of Sci-fi fantasty. turns out your book is very famous in dymocks. both books were there but as my $25 voucher says ‘only 25 dollars!’
so when i looked on the blurb i was slightly offened and very pulled in. as my cousins birthday is the 21/9 and my birthday is the 20/9. but beside the silly date i started to read staright away as every chance i got as my sister tried a dress on in shop to shop. soon 1-2 weeks later i finished and cried because annie almost gets eaten!! anyway ive been dying to get the next one and my local and school libraies dont have it. but ive been doing a little ‘free advertising’ for you and like jimmy jet says its as good as harry potter. thanks for giving me an awesome book because i havent read anything for a year until that voucher came and pointed in your way.

Thanks for telling me the story of how you came to read Extinction 1. Sisters trying on dresses can be very boring! Good luck with finding Extinction 2 somewhere. I’m surprised your libraries haven’t got it yet. Request it and usually if enough people do, they’ll buy it.
I would love there to be a movie. It can take a long time to get movie production companies on board and it all depends if they think the movie will make a profit. But if they think the book is popular, they will invest in the movie. So tell all your friends to check out the book trailer (go to youtube and search for ‘Extinction Series by Lizzie Wilcock’. The more hits the trailer gets, the better chance of movie companies being impressed that the book has a following. Thanks for thinking I am good at sci fi writing. I was a bit unsure at first, but I am so proud of the Extinction series and they were such fun to write.

I haven’t yet read Extinction 2. I have read the 1st one and have nearly finished it for the third time. I told my friend about it and she’s just as crazy about it as I am! We are DYING to get the second one! It’s so full of suspense!

Sold out? Did your mum ask for it? Some stores don’t stock it. I don’t know why. I think some stores stick to the famous authors and the well-known series. Good luck with finding it. You live in Sydney, so there should be no problem if your mum tries other stores. In the meantime, I shall tell you the first line of Extinction 2.

Getting a copy of Extinction 2 is hard, mainly because of the lack of book shops around. People are buying books online these days. So if your mum lets you buy online, you just google “Extinction 2: The Explosive Conclusion” and you’ll get a whole heap of online bookstores. It is also available in Dymocks (not sure where your nearest one is), and at Macleans Booksellers in Hamilton and Toronto. I think that it might be available soon in book club, as it is published by Scholastic. Good luck. I think you will love it!

3.the shop my mum ordered it from was called QBD they dont stock your books but as they are the only book store in horsnsby at the moment (Borders shut down 😦 ) i think you should tell your publishers to stock it there.
4.this is the only thing ive done besides reading it since ive got it!!(and breathing of course!)

Fantastic news about you getting E2. Just remember to breathe. Ha, Ha about the first line in the book. Phil is my husband. I dedicated the first one to Isla (my daughter) so I thought he deserved to have the second one dedicated to him, after all, he was a neglected husband whilst I hid myself away in my study to write the book.
We have a QBD in Newcastle. They don’t stock my book here either. It is so difficult to find it anywhere lately, except for online bookstores.

The trailer is actually a book trailer. Lots of publishing companies are doing it these days to promote their books. It would be so good if Extinction became a movie. One of the ways to make it happen is to have a huge internet following, so get all your friends to check out the youtube trailer. The more hits it gets, the more confidence the movie production company will have about the movie being a hit. So send the link to all your friends. Nice to meet you Alex.

So, E2 was worth the wait?? I am glad you liked it. It would have been awful if my number one fan didn’t like it. I loved writing E2, especially bringing all the loose ends together and tying things up neatly at the end. The big orange ball on the cover of E2 makes sense now, doesn’t it? Hey, that’s really nice that you were glad Rufus Keller got his brother. Most people wouldn;t care about the villain, but you must have sensed a sadness in him and understood why he was so angry at the world. Thanks for your comment. Please say thank you to Mrs Caban for getting you guys interested in Extinction. I am reading it with my Year 5 class next term so I am in the middle of writing teacher’s notes to go with it. Mrs Caban might be interested in getting a copy of these. I will post them on my website when complete.
Annie is definitely my favourite character and I guess that’s why she kind of had more of a major part in the novel, even though I started out planning on having her and Mac be equal. She is a lot like me too, although I do wish I had her powers!
I hope you enjoy Give Me Four Reasons too. It is a change of pace, but the characters are wonderful, even some of the minor ones, like Miff. I have written teachers notes on this book and there is an interview where I tell how the idea for the story came about. After you read it you might like to have a look. They are not on this site, but just google “Give Me Four Reasons Teachers notes” and you’ll find them.

I don’t really like reading and don’t read may books, but when I started reading the first book of Extinction, it was really interesting!
I’m also a twin and 13 years old and I was hooked and had to finish the book.
I loved how you linked all the characters and events together.
I had read Extinction 1 and 2 and I chose to do a reading assignment on them. I had to design a new front cover and do lots of tasks. The front cover is my picture!

Yeah, where have you been??? The city on the cover is . . . drumroll . . . I dunno. A guy called Steve at Scholastic designed the cover and he probably used an image from shutterstock (an internet site with millions of images that you can purchase or use for free). The giant orange thing on E2 is meant to look like the comet that comes in Book 2. Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkssssssssssssssssssssss. What gave you the idea to do an “end of the world” series? Just a question that has been bugging me. Please answer.

The answer to your question comes from a camping trip I was on a few years ago. My boyfriend (now husband) and I were camping up the north coast of NSW in a National Park. We decided to go for a long walk along the remote beaches one day. It was a 20 km walk return, filled with swimming and and having fun on the beach. It was Easter Sunday and perfect weather. At about 5 oçlock in the afternoon, as we returned to our campsite, it suddenly occurred to me that we had seen no one else all day, despite the perfect weather and it being a Sunday. I started to wonder if something had happened to the world and that we didn’t know about it for some reason, perhaps because we were underwater at the time, or had slipped into a magical realm, or something like that. So that’s where the idea was born and became the premise for the Extinction series.

You are the first person who thinks Zeph is their favourite character. Poor Zeph didn’t get much action in Extinction 2 but in the original series I wrote, I had Zeph and Deli playing a much bigger role. Zeph is really cool, a music lover, a bit of an emo/goth, and a bit spoilt and self-centred because of his famous parents (adopted parents). I guess he’s like I imagine a Hollywood child to be.

The title of my new book is “Thirst”. It will be published in May 2014. I am almost finished writing the first draft and I am really pleased with it. The things in Extinction 2 are kind of true. One of the oldest water sources is under the Sahara desert (so this could mean it is pure). The purest air is in a place called Cape Grimm in Tasmania, which I changed to Cape Green. It does suffer the winds known as the “roaring forties”. The purest source of fire would be from the sun and the best place to get some that is unfiltered by ozone layers is Antarctica. The purest earth one is up for debate. Diamond is certainly the hardest and most valuable source of earth and a huge nugget was found in Western Australia in the 1940s. I thought that making the last element be located in a city would be a good change of pace. All of the facts I learned through my good friend, Google. The “eight” places are purely fiction, as is time travel and portals. So the Extinction series is a clever mix of fact and fiction.

Nice to hear from you. I have been slack with my blog because I have been madly finishing my new novel. But guess what, dude? The easter bunny brought me lots of chocolate and I finished my novel on Easter Sunday!! Yeah!! A bit of spit and polish and I will send it off to my publishers. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t need too much rewriting and editing. As to your question about collaborating with another author – No, I have not thought about it. I can barely organise myself, so I would be hopeless trying to fit in with another person’s writing schedule.

Extinction is the best book I have ever read!!!! The only problem is I read in a week! Every one in my year 6 class loves it! I can’t find a copy of extinction 2:( but as I said its the BEST BOOK EVER!!!!!

Wow! The BEST book you have ever read? That is high praise. I am reading it with my Year 5 class soon and I get chills when kids say they really love it. You simply must find a copy of Extinction 2. You need to know if Annie survives being carried off by a lioness. Try your library or you might need to try an online bookstore. If your parents dont; like buying things online then you can go into a bookstore and ask them to order it in for you. You will absolutely love Extinction 2 as it is faster paced and you meet many more characters and travel the world. It ties up all the loose ends and explains things very nicely. I am immensely proud of it. Let me know what you think (when you find a copy!!)

I really don’t like cliff hangers, it makes me want to hang off a cliff! Ha ha ha get cause it’s a cliff hanger and… oh forget it.
